CREW LEADERS

The crew leader attends the Baltimore Area Council Contingents' Philmont Outdoor Training weekend in March.  If you're planning to run for crew leader of your Philmont crew, you should make sure to save this date! At this training, the crew leader will get information on the latest Philmont techniques for camp set-up, land navigation, first aid, and personal gear.

CAMPERSHIPS

Each year, the Council typically receives Waite Phillips Camperships to award to scouts in the Council.  Applications are due to the Contingent leader in by August 20th each year, unless other announcted.  Information on the application process and application forms are posted on on the "Applications" page when available each year.  Camperships typically range from $300-$500 and are based on need.  The campership application must be filled out by the scout requesting the aid, and not a parent or adult leader.

PHONE SERVICE AT PHILMONT

Most cell phones don't work at Philmont base camp or in the backcountry. Plus, there is no place to charge your phone during travel, or at Philmont. There are a few pay phones in base camp, but there are usually long lines.  Don't promise your friends or families that you'll call, because it might be impossible. In base camp, Cingular AT&T has the best service, while Sprint and Verizon have some limited service.

PACKING FOR PHILMONT

Using a packing list is a great way to make sure you remember to pack everything going to Philmont..and coming back home.  This handy list was developed for members of the BAC Contingent, and divides up your packing into items to wear, to put in your small travel duffel, and to put in your backpack.
