CREW TEES

Crew tees can be a great way to build team spirit in your crew.  You can make them up yourself, or take advantage of Philmont's ready-made designs.  Philmont provides order forms for cotton and moisture wicking tees in with your crew information packets.

CREW FINANCES

Crew advisors are responsible for acting as liaisons between their crews and the Contingent.  One of the most important responsibilities is to keep crew families apprised and current on all financial info.  In addition to the initial deposit paid within two weeks of the lottery, each crew member submits regular payments according to a published payment schedule.  These payments are collected by the unit/crew and one check is submitted to the Contingent according to the payment schedule.

Each year, the Council typically receives a Campership allocation from the BSA regional office.  The Waite Phillips Campership gift is designed to assist youth who might not otherwise be able to attend Philmont due to financial hardship. Any youth in the Contingent can apply for a campership, provided they have not been to Philmont in the past, with applications due in August. Information and applications are provided on this website when available. Camperships typically range from $300-$500.

PHILMONT ADVISOR GUIDE

In the Fall, each Baltimore contingent crew receives a copy of this valuable resource.  Each advisor is strongly encouraged to read the Guide!  In it, you'll find the answers to most all of your questions about preparing for Philmont and what to expect upon arrival and on the trail.

The Guide was put together by NCAC scouters Cooper Wright and Wally Feurtado, and is updated annually to include the latest info about Philmont, using tips and data from current advisors, Philmont rangers, and staff.  For additional copies, or for non-contingent crews, the Philmont Advisors Guide via this website.

CREW LEADERS

The most successful crew leaders are elected/selected by their peers, and not appointed by the adult leadership. Depending on the experience of your crew, and their familiarity with each other, the crew leader can be chosen any time up until the Spring Outdoor Training.  We ask that all crews select their crew leader prior to this date so that this person may participate in the training.  The crew leader receives counsel from the lead advisor in the crew, and ideally this individual is not the parent of the crew leader

CONTACTING PHILMONT

For general questions about Philmont, or questions specific to the Contingent, please contact the Contingent leader.  If you have questions specific to individuals in your crew, you may contact Philmont.  Issues which are appropriate for direct questions to Philmont include discussions with the Health Lodge about a crew member's medical condition, or questions about dietary requirements.  Note to members of the Jewish faith: If members of your crew have requirements for kosher meals, please contact the Contingent leader for meals during travel, and the Philmont Chaplain Services for meals on the trail.  The rabbi on staff will make arrangements for your trail meals.

The phone number for all Philmont calls is (575) 376-2281.  You will be transferred to the appropriate department.
