The Baltimore Area Council sends two Council Contingents to Philmont each summer, representing units
from all over the Baltimore Area Council. Each Contingent is comprised of eleven individual crews. If more than
eleven crews apply to participate then a lottery is held. This takes place in March each year, with applications available
on this website in February. Although most lottery applications are from single units or multiple units which
combine personnel, there are opportunities for individual youth or adults to be placed in crews that have less than the
maximum twelve crew members. Individuals who would like to join a Philmont crew on a provisional basis should complete the
application on the "Application" page or for additional information, submit the online for on the "How to Go to Philmont"
page.
OUR MISSION
The Baltimore Area Council Philmont Committee provides a volunteer Contingent Leader and trainers to assist
Contingent crews in preparing for and participating at Philmont. The Contingent Leader acts as tour leader for the groups,
arranging all travel and logistics, and handling all communication with Philmont.
COMMITTEE ORGANIZATION
The Baltimore Area Council Philmont Committee is made up of volunteers who are registered scouters in the
Baltimore Area Council. The committee is supervised by a scouting professional on the Council staff. Committee
members regularly serve as advisors for Philmont crews from their units, representing both Boy Scout troops and Venturing
crews.
